Lily arrived under my roof in early January 2000 (found abandoned by an observant person in the woods with litter mates in the cold winter of NE Ohio and rescued by a kind hearted person I remain friends with today) and adopted by me when a young puppy about 8-9 weeks old.

With daughter Sophie and Lily, Jan./2000

She grew up with my kids and was a gangly puppy when I started A Better Pet LLC full time after taking the plunge to leave the security of a “real” job to follow my passion. Lily was a complicated being – a product of nature and nurture — and innately, upon full maturity, became very protective in certain circumstances. While she was fine with the other dogs and cats that co-resided during her 10 year reign, she was reactive and protective when faced with other dogs out in public on leash. I did eventually work through and past it but in those days never felt too comfortable inviting other dogs into my house or yard. Lily was the inspiration for the creation of DIP (Drop in Play) and her legacy lives on in the residual benefit of her wisdom and strength of character passed on to all the dogs and cats (my own, service dog puppies in training or rescue/foster animals) that live or have lived here.

Lily The Queen

Respecting the vision and skill of those who also follow their passion to carve out a creative venture, I stumbled many years ago on the whimsical genius of Jen C. Cleere of Fetching Tags. I have recommended these ID Pet Tags to all my service dog clients and as many pet dog clients who will have a listen as the creativity, functionality and durability of these light weight, custom dog tags (great also for cats, luggage, purse and key rings). Now I have partnered to offer you a time limited offer…
