Are you looking for a simple, straightforward, effective way to train your new puppy or adolescent dog using positive methods? With any new pet, there are certain behaviors you want to encourage and other behaviors you want to eliminate. While your dog is young is when you can have the biggest impact on their developing temperament!
A Better Pet’s six-week ZOOM Online Puppy & Adolescent Dog Training Course is designed to provide you with everything you need to know to help your newest family member develop good manners to become a better pet! This includes potty and crate training, navigating up and down steps, learning good leash manners, and following essential commands including sit, down, stay and more. More importantly, you’ll learn how to teach your dog new things on your own for years to come.
This online course breaks down all the steps you need to teach your puppy, adolescent or young adult dog how to develop into a well-behaved, enjoyable companion for you and your family!
Our approach uses positive, non-force-based methods and is realistic about the time it takes to train a puppy. We also share guidance about training expectations for the specific breed, energy-level, age and temperament of your dog. This class is limited to 15 dogs to allow for individualized attention during and between classes.
This course is designed along a specific progression that provides all the basic skills a puppy or young dog needs to become a well-behaved pet—and all the lessons they need to learn before beginning any advanced training to function as a therapy, service or guide dog.
This course is also designed to become incrementally more challenging as the weeks progress, thus allowing you and your puppy/young dog to build upon and increase your skills. Coursework will be presented with both live and recorded demonstrations to visualize the goals, utilizing live lectures and live Q&As, and with time in each class for students to demonstrate their abilities, if desired. Students are also encouraged to submit assigned homework as videos for review and feedback during the course to enhance your individual progress.
All coursework has been modified to work effectively on an online platform, and is supported by substantial handout material and individual support when needed to help each owner. We understand that puppy socialization is often a challenge in these uncertain times, and this course will share ways to work within your own location’s social-distancing requirements and your individual comfort level to still have a positive impact on the social development of your puppy.

Puppy Participation: Both owners and puppies should be present for all sessions of the course as this is an interactive, hands-on training course. DIP attendance in between classes encouraged for local students.
Prerequisites: No previous experience is necessary but if you are very new or struggling with your dog, going through the private training first is suggested. Basic dog training experience and clicker training is helpful but not required.
Course Format: Each session is 90 minutes long and is fully interactive with opportunity to share experiences and ask questions. All classes will meet using the online Zoom platform. If you are unavailable to attend a certain week live or you want a refresher, each session will be recorded and made available for review to course participants for the full length of the course.
Class Size: To ensure a personalized experience, this course is limited to 15 young dogs.
Materials and Equipment Strongly suggested:
- Clicker
- Front-attaching no-pull harness or a Har-Vest (available for purchase)
- Martingale Collar
- Euro-leash(preferred for its versatility) or a 6- to 7-foot leash
- One plastic-coated wire cable with a clip on either end
- A dog bed or bedding
- A crate suitable to the size of your dog
