Rachel Friedman, Founder and President of A Better Pet LLC, has worked with both people and animals — primarily dogs, cats and horses — as far back as she can remember. Rachel spent countless hours in her teens on a working quarter horse ranch. It was there she first learned the power of positive training and a non-force based approach to communicating with another species. Rachel earned a B.A. in Social Sciences from The University of Michigan, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) from The University of Pennsylvania. She is an Ohio licensed independent social worker (L.I.S.W).
Merging her passions for animals and social service, Rachel launched A Better Pet LLC in the fall of 1998 (becoming an LLC in 2000). Starting with pet dog training, and offering both private in-home & group services, Rachel naturally progressed into service dog training with a sub speciality in autism, psychiatric and mobility service dogs.
“Inventor” was added to her resume with the creation of Har-Vest: 3-in-1 Backpack for Dogs, the first and only hybrid no-pull harness, vest/backpack and calming cape on the market today. Har-Vest has proven to be an amazingly functional and therapeutic product for pet and service dog animals, both on leash and off. Speaking of leashes, Rachel also took the original and long used 6 ft. leather euro-leash into a new and improved vegan euroleash version, manufactured locally, designed, created and launched during the first months of the pandemic.
Adapting for the age of Covid and an as yet uncertain future, Rachel has adapted her private and group services, introducing people to her user friendly, proactive and interactive dog training program, into a hybrid model of zoom online and face to face at DIPs and for private follow-up. You can learn more HERE. THE SIX PILLARS OF DOG TRAINING WISDOM helps demystify the process to the motivated owner(s), making dog training easy and fun, regardless of your background, experience, learning style or goals. Positive methods. Positive results.
Rachel also offers a variety of programs for both owners and trainers (with additional options coming in 2021) and is available for public speaking. In addition to expert witness/evaluation services, pet-matchmaking consults, rescue/re-homing services, she has a small outpatient clinical therapy practice for clients F2F and through Talkspace.
