At the same time, there’s more to be worried and anxious about. I know my pets pick up on that. It’s also been harder to keep their routines the same, and while for me socializing them with other animals and people is still doable, for many, it can be incredibly challenging—especially those who have brought in puppies since the pandemic began. And certainly it’s been harder to keep training and encouragement of good behaviors up to prior levels.
While our pets and working dogs appreciate the extra time they’ve had with their owners, this pandemic has created anxiety for them as well. It’s real and it’s worth acknowledging and exploring.
That’s why I’m hosting a free talk on Aug. 6 to engage in a discussion on the effects of the pandemic on our companion and working animals. It’s important to share what we’re all going through—and how it’s affecting our pets and service animals. There are also things we can do to ease their anxiety, and best receive the gifts of their calming presence for our own stress and worry.
If you’re interested in joining the conversation, please register now for this talk and mark your calendar to join me online at 6 p.m. on Aug. 6 as we explore The Effect of Quarantining on Our Companion and Working Animals. This event is free and open to everyone.
